    • From publication:"The King's England Dorset" by Arthur Mee; Hodder and Stoughton Limited.

Page 31 Re the Church at Blandford built in the 18th Century: "Another tablet, carved with cherubs, tells us of a father and son of the 18th Century both named Thomas Creech. Thomas Creech the second was a small poet and translator of Lucretius, and here he is quaintly described as 'the learned, much admired, and envied Mr Creech of Oxford'.
His sister Bridget Creech married another well-known man of Blandford, Thomas Bastard, who is described as 'a man useful and industrious in his generation, a peaceful and inoffensive neighbour, eminent for his skill in architecture'. His architectural skill was handed on to the next generation, for his two sons rebuilt this church.
An earlier Thomas Bastard of Tudor days was a genial parson of whom we are told he was always poor, always in trouble, that he had poor livings and his wife 'was no great help-meet,' that he was imprisoned at Dorchester for debt, and was buried at last in the parish churchyard 'leaving behind him many memorials of his wit and drollery.'
