('Tan') Vine, with whom Moddie had served in the Second World War and who, as an instructor in the School of Artillery in Waiouru, was involved in the training of Kayforce before joining it in November. He was appointed regimental sergeant-major, the first step in a distinguished career with the force which would see him eventually commissioned."
