104 As at July 2013 my first priority source of parish register data published online per courtesy of the Dorset History Centre is not available for Winterborne Kingston for the period 1700 - 1750. In lieu I am compelled to rely on Dorset Online Parish Clerk transcriptions for christenings in this period.
Also there is some difficulty in identifying the children of John and Elizabeth CRUMPLER nee HAYWARD.
Another John CRUMPLER, most probably the son of John and Dorothy(e) CRUMPLER, who were married at Winterborne Kingston and also resident in Mapperton, married Mary CLENCH at Blandford St Mary on 28 December 1705.
The Will of John CRUMPLER, born c1645 cites the following grandchildren as beneficiaries:
Mary CRUMPLER, christened 21 Dec 1706 (?bur 30 March 1752), and
Daniel CRUMPLER, christened 9 November 1708.
Given the date of the Will, 1723, the only possible other children of John and Elizabeth could have been:
Thomas s John, 2 December 1723
Sarah d John, 17 July 1726
Ruth d John, 3 August 1729
Thomas s John, 9 July 1732.
However as this cannot be relied on I have omitted these children as issue of John and Elizabeth.

109 At first sight this surname may not mean what could immediately come to mind. The Bastard family were prominent citizens of Blandford Forum as this extract from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastard_brothers confirms:
"John (ca 1668-1770) and William Bastard (ca 1689-1766) were British surveyor-architects, and civic dignitaries[1] of the town of Blandford Forum in Dorset.[2] John and William generally worked together and are known as the "Bastard brothers". They were builders, furniture makers, ecclesiastical carvers and experts at plasterwork,[3] but are most notable for their rebuilding work at Blandford Forum following a large fire of 1731,[4] and for work in the neighbourhood that Colvin describes as "mostly designed in a vernacular baroque style of considerable merit though of no great sophistication.".[5] Their work was chiefly inspired by the buildings of Wren, Archer and Gibbs.[6] Thus the Bastards' architecture was retrospective and did not follow the ideals of the more austere Palladianism which by the 1730s was highly popular in England.
The brothers,[7] the sons of Thomas Bastard (died 1720), a joiner and architect, the founder of a family firm of provincial architects in the area. However little remains today of the works of the brothers' ancestors, chiefly as the result of the 1731 fire and a previous fire in the town in 1713.
In my quest to discover documentation with birth information for Betty Bastard (no Parish Records seemingly available) I have found answers in an Account and Declaration sworn by Betty 22 June 1734 - http://genealogy.bobvine.nz/media/CrumplerBettySettlementwithJohnandWilliamBastard1734.pdf . This document relates to an advance made by brothers John and William Bastard, who are the subject of the Wikipedia item above, to Nicholas Crumpler. The reasons for this are another (long) story which I shall give priority to writing for attachment to the Person Pages for John Crumpler born abt 1645, his wife Christian, Nicholas and Betty's son Daniel, his wife Christian Joyce, and Nicholas' sister Martha Lawrence.
The document identifies Betty's father Thomas (died 1720), and his brothers John and William.
Betty's Will of 1771 also identifies 2 nephews, Thomas Bastard the Elder and Thomas Bastard the Younger.

134 Birth and Marriage Records show first names "Laura Starbuck". Death Certificate shows "Laura Ellen Starbuck".
Electoral Rolls 1905 and 1914 show "Laura Ellen Kitto".
At the request of the family of Mark STARBUCK whose daughter Laura Ellen STARBUCK was coincidently born in the Otago Goldfields, after her parents had migrated from Australia, as was Laura Ellen Starbuck RAINHAM for the possibility of a connection I have established:
1. There is no apparent connection between the two families, in Australia NSW and Victoria and then later in the Otago area. However on looking up the meaning of "Starbuck" I found in Wikipedia "The name Starbuck is primarily a gender-neutral name of English origin that means "From The River Where Stakes Were Got".
English surname. Character in Melville's novel, Moby Dick.
Usually used as a nickname."
This of course, in the RAINHAM case has relevance with their gold mining endeavours.
Then as to how "Ellen" came to be added along the way we find that it is derived from the name "Elizabeth" who was our Laura's mother.
Rainham, Laura (Ellen) Starbuck (I00331)

146 Birth Sussex, England and Death Thames, New Zealand calls for close research.

Verification has been achieved thus:
The 1861 Census recorded Richard at Jenkins Town River Sherbro, Sierra Leone as an Able Seaman aboard HMS Falcon cruising for the suppression of the Slave Trade between Cape St Ann and Cape Palmas.

Later news of his Naval career is found in the "Thames Star" New Zealand, 27 May 1902 under the head "Our Veterans"
"In connection with the application for new ribbons for medals held by the veterans of Thames, to which the details have been forwarded to His Excellency the Governor, the following applications have been dispatched to the Earl of Ranfurly.
........... Richard Taylor, Thames, HMS Eclipse (Capt Morgan), 8 years' service. Holds NZ War Medal."
